The use of a retinoid for acne was approved back in 1971, and since then, it has been recognized to offer a multitude of benefits for skin concerns and offer proven results.
Retinoids for Acne
Acne can be a tough skin condition to tackle for many, but retinoids might be the answer. Retinoid cream has the ability to unclog pores, which better prepares the skin for any acne skin treatments being applied to actually get to where it needs to go. Whereas, retinoid pills treat your skins oil production and the bacteria that causes acne, as well as inflammation.
Retinoids for Wrinkles
Tretinoin is a prescription retinoid that helps to increase new collagen and stimulates new blood vessels. It also fades age spots and reducing precancerous skin spots called actinic keratosis. There are some over-the-counter retinoid creams, but tretinoin will likely offer a higher strength of effectiveness in reducing wrinkles.
However, you should know that this isn’t an overnight anti-aging miracle cream. It can take anywhere from 3-6 months of regular applications before any improvements are seen, with maximum results appearing after 6-12 months of use. So give it time …you can’t rush the reversal of aging!
Retinoids for Psoriasis
If you have psoriases, a retinoid cream is something you should speak with your doctor or dermatologist about, but there are studies that show success with retinoids and psoriasis as well.
Retinoids offer many amazing benefits to the skin, but there is always risk involved as with anything, which includes: dryness, irritation, skin color changes, sunlight sensitivity, as well as redness, swelling, crusting, or blistering.
If you are going to undergo retinoid treatments, be sure to stay out of the sun and always wear a 30SPF sunscreen, don’t overuse the product (only use as prescribed), and ensure you are applying moisturizer regularly.
Pregnant women or those looking to become pregnant should not use retinoids.
