At Azure Skin Care Spa + Medical, we are very fortunate to have Dr. Byron Ham as our medical esthetics expert. He provides botox and filler services as well as Fraxel laser resurfacing and scar revision. He brings over 40 years of medical experience and knowledge to the spa and has a keen esthetic eye, which makes his work very natural looking.
Botox: Botox is used to smooth lines created by motion in the face and neck. The most common areas for injections are the frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet – all of which are created by facial movements. Botox blocks the receptor sites for the neuro-chemical that makes the muscles fire. This keeps the muscles in a relaxed state and allows the wrinkle to relax creating smoother more refreshed looking skin. Botox is administered in “units”. The number of units each person needs will be different depending on the desired look and the strength of the muscles in a given area. As the receptor sites on the muscle are replaced in the natural process of cell renewal, the Botox wears off. At
first one would need to come in for Botox every 3- 4 months, but as time passes one can go for longer and longer periods before needing a Botox treatment.
Juvederm: Juvederm is a “filler” used to create volume or replace lost volume in the face. It is made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar-like substance that is found naturally in the skin. Hyaluronic acid helps to maintain hydration in the skin and is an amazing molecule as it can hold 1000 times its own weight in water! Juvederm is used to increase lip volume, fill deep lines, such as laugh lines or marionette lines, and add volume to the cheeks. Juvederm can last up to 12 months depending on the injection site. Fillers are not used to filling up the whole line or put all the volume back at once. Small amounts are injected and the hyaluronic acid expands as it absorbs water, it can take up to 2 weeks to see the full volume effect of the Juvederm.
Fraxel Laser Treatments: Fraxel Laser treatments use a patented fractional technology to target damaged skin with microscopic columns of laser that can penetrate very deeply into the skin. As the laser treats only small amounts of skin at a time, leaving the surrounding skin untouched, healing is rapid and downtime is minimal. Fraxel resurfacing treatments result in fresher, smoother skin with improved tone and texture, reduced wrinkles and improved appearance of acne, surgical scars, and stretch marks. The number of treatments needed depends on skin type and the sort of skin damage being treated. Dr. Ham has been doing Fraxel for many years and is very well-versed with the Fraxel’s capabilities. He assesses each client and how many treatments they would need.
