With spring just around the corner, most Lower Mainlanders are eagerly anticipating layering down. But the one area you should never layer down with is sunscreen.
The Aging Effects of Sun Exposure
Who doesn’t enjoy the warm feeling of the sun on their skin? After a longer and harsher winter than usual, we can all agree that a little bit of sun could go a long way right about now. The same rings true for sunscreen and saving your skin from its aging effects.
If you have fallen prey to the tanning bed this winter, you should know that there is truly no such thing as “tanning safely”, as UVA rays are the suns silent killer and are the primary cause of skin cancer and wrinkles.
Perhaps you have even noticed that one side of your face is appearing to have more fine lines than the other. This is often due to the fact that sun rays can actually penetrate a clear glass window – such as your vehicle window, causing your face to crease more on one side.
Best Defense Against the Sun
Your best defense against the sun is to use a sunscreen with a minimum SPF 15 protection, which should be put on 20 minutes before exposure for it to take effect.
Many mineral makeup brands offer SPF protection also – which we offer at our Clayton Heights Spa, and this type of makeup coverage is excellent for people who have sensitive skin as it delivers the SPF protection without the “clogging” concerns of lotion or sensitive reaction to it.
Otherwise, those with sensitive skin should purchase a sunscreen that uses titanium dioxide or zinc oxide as the main ingredient to guard against breakouts without foregoing sunscreen.
At Azure Spa + Medical, we are conveniently located in Cloverdale and offer a vast variety of services to combat aging, reverse the effects the sun has already created, and recreate glowing skin for your once again.
