Many people do not know there is a difference between Microdermabrasion and Dermabrasion, but they offer a much different procedure, level of invasion, healing time and result.
Microdermabrasion is – in essence – a “micro” version of dermabrasion. It only addresses the top 10-15 microns on your skin (very top, superficial level). Whereas it’s counterpart is a much deeper “scrub”, taking off many more layers of skin,and as such – it is a lot more invasive and takes quite a long period of time to heal.
Dermabrasion Explained
Dermabrasion will radically improve the appearance of your skin, treating deep wrinkles, scarring, and hyper pigmentation. However, the recovery time and cost is extensive, and a trained medical professional must conduct this type of procedure.
A powerful hand-held device is used, with a metal wheel and diamond fraise or wire brush as affixed to it to peel off the skin. Often this requires a local anesthetic for comfort reasons, and can take anywhere between 5 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the area being address and to what extent the skin corrections require.
Your skin will be extremely sensitive for 10 days or more, and will have ongoing scabbing often for a month or more, with the final result not taking full effect for 2-3 months.
Microdermabrasion Explained
Microdermabrasion offers you an excellent surface-level “scrub”, removing dead skin cells, small scars, stretch marks and sunspots, as well as addressed fine lines. It will allow for your moisturizer to absorb more readily into your skin, helping you appear more hydrated with a glowing appeal.
Microdermabrasion improves your complexion beautifully while addressing mild skin concerns, and unlike dermabrasion, microdermabrasion can treat the neck area, which is too delicate for the invasive procedure of dermabrasion.
Multiple sessions of microdermabrasion will offer the best results, with 6-12 being the recommended.
